Front Science Panel

The Front Science Panel (FSP) fills the provided space on the observer's side of the instrument panel and provides the human-machine interface for the aircraft's science systems.

The Front Science Panel (FSP) provides the means to monitor and, where necessary, control the setup and configuration of the scientific instruments on the aircraft.

At the core of the FSP is the custom built Multi-Function Display (MFD) system, incorporating the main monitor and push-button interface, both connected to the Control Display Computer on the Rear Science Panel. From here all onboard systems can be monitored and controlled over the onboard network.

A switch panel provides direct control over two of the primary power circuits to each payload area, and also provides hardware control of the data marking system and laser altimeter system.

The FSP also includes the CSM-CR1B datalogger (CSI CR1000), a rugged USB hub, a microcontroller, and an intercom expansion box for communications with ground crew. On the right hand side of the FSP the External Interface Unit provides a connection to a ground umbilical line which, passed through the canopy storm window, can provide external power, network and voice communications to the aircraft's science systems.
