The Mavic 2 Pro is a lightweight multi-rotor UAS with a high-quality built in camera and sophisticated flight safety features. The Mavic 2 Pro is a lightweight (~ 1 kg) but very sophisticated quadcopter aircraft with inbuilt high-quality Hasselbad RGB camera suitable for photogrammetric and ortho-mapping applications. The Mavic is incredibly portable (the rotor arms folding, so that the aircraft will fit into a large pocket), and provides outstanding flight times of up to 29 minutes under ideal conditions. Under real world conditions, and operating with healthy safety margins, flights times of around 20 minutes are more practical, but this remains a very useful endurance for an aircraft of this class. It is generally not possible to carry additional sensors. The Hasselblad L1D-20c is a 20 Mp camera, featuring a 1" CMOS sensor and integrated gimbal system. Further details of the system can be found on the DJI website: Mavic 2 - Product Information - DJI Positioning Accuracy The Mavic 2 Pro tags all acquired images in real-time with GNSS navigational data at Standard Positioning Service (SPS) accuracy - in practice, typically around 2-3 m. This tagging allows photogrammetric software packages to create geo-referenced data products, but the absolute accuracy of the geo-referencing is obviously limited by that of the original images. For some applications this level of geo-referencing is sufficient, but where cm-level absolute positional accuracy is required this can be achieved using independently surveyed Ground Control Points (GCPs) and Check Points (CPs), which can provide additional constraint during the photogrammetric processing (GCPs) and an assessment of residual errors (CPs). For this purpose we can provide GCP / CP marker boards and a Leica GPS 500 survey system in a field-portable carrying system. More modern and compact ground survey systems are also available to eligible projects through the NERC Geophysical Equipment Facility (GEF).
